As India prepared to take on New Zealand in the final match of Champions Trophy 2025. Have a look at the last time India played in a Champions Trophy final in 2017, when they faced arch-rivals Pakistan at The Oval. In a one-sided contest, Pakistan outplayed India, securing a massive 180-run victory to lift their maiden Champions Trophy title.
Fakhar Zaman’s brilliance powered Pakistan to 338
Batting first, Pakistan put up a commanding total of 338/4, with Fakhar Zaman leading the charge. The left-hander, who got a lucky break after being dismissed off a no-ball, went on to score a stunning 114 runs. Azhar Ali provided solid support with 59, while the middle order capitalized on the strong start.
For India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Hardik Pandya, and Kedar Jadhav managed a wicket each, but the bowlers struggled to contain Pakistan’s aggressive batting.
India’s batting collapsed under pressure
Chasing a daunting target, India’s top order crumbled early, with Mohammad Amir producing a fiery spell. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Shikhar Dhawan all fell cheaply, leaving India reeling. The only resistance came from Hardik Pandya, who smashed 76 runs in a counterattacking knock. However, his innings ended in controversy when he was run out after a mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja.
India were bowled out for just 158, as Hasan Ali and Mohammad Amir took three wickets each. Fakhar Zaman was named Player of the Match for his match-winning century.
