Former Indian cricketer, Ajit Agarkar believes that the biggest challenge for India’s new white-ball captain, Rohit Sharma is to stay fit ahead of the T20 and ODI World Cup scheduled over the next 24 months.

Agarkar said on Star Sports that it’s a good thing and the right thing to do, having a single captain for the white-ball formats and Rohit now can actually fly.

With the T20 World Cup later this year and ODI World Cup coming next year, Agarkar feels the captain should be there with the team, which also worked for former captains, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

“So, the challenge for Rohit Sharma is to remain fit and play everything that is there from now to the World Cup, because you need a captain that was like Virat Kohli’s strengths or MS Dhoni, they rarely missed matches and both were very fit”, said Agarkar on Star Sports.

Rohit couldn’t play in the recent Test series against South Africa as he was recovering from a left hamstring injury. His hamstring had been a recurring issue that forced him to miss the first two Test matches and also the white-ball leg of the tour of Australia in 2020-21.

The 34-year-old is now all set to start his full-time ODI tenure as a captain on Sunday where India will play against West Indies in Ahmedabad. It will be India’s 1000th one-day international match and will become the first country ever to reach this milestone.
