The highly anticipated Ashes series is scheduled to kick off on June 16 at Edgbaston. However, the opening Test match in Birmingham could be affected by rain. While the WTC Final between India and Australia at the Oval remained unaffected by rain, Edgbaston is expected to experience some precipitation.
Given England’s impressive form in recent Test matches under the coaching of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum, fans will be hoping that the match doesn’t get washed out.
England has won 11 out of their last 13 Tests, displaying an aggressive and fearless style of cricket. On the other hand, Australia is coming off a victory in the WTC Final against India. As we approach the Ashes opener, let’s take a look at the weather forecast for Birmingham.
The first day of the Test match in Birmingham is expected to be rain-free. However, from day two onward, rain showers are predicted.
According to Accu Weather, there is a possibility of light thunderstorms starting from day two. The temperature is expected to range between 14 to 28 degrees Celsius throughout the match. Unfortunately, heavy rainfall is forecasted for the final day of the Birmingham Test, which could potentially disrupt play.
Regarding the Australian team, they are facing a selection dilemma between Scott Boland and Josh Hazlewood. Boland performed exceptionally well in Hazlewood’s absence during the WTC Final, taking three crucial wickets in the second innings.
It remains to be seen whether Boland retains his place in the team, considering Hazlewood is now fit and available for selection.
