The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has set a deadline of June 30 for the appointment of a new chief selector ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023. With the mega tournament just around the corner, the BCCI is keen to finalize the selection committee as soon as possible.
Six months after Chetan Sharma’s departure as the chief selector, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has commenced the process of finding a suitable replacement. With just over three months remaining for the World Cup 2023, the Indian Cricket Board has invited applications for a new member to join the selection committee.
The current members of the selection committee include Subroto Banerjee, Salil Ankola, Sridharan Sharath, and Shiv Sunder Das, who is temporarily leading the committee. To be eligible for the role, applicants must have played a minimum of seven Test matches, thirty First-Class matches, ten One Day Internationals (ODIs), and twenty First-Class matches. Additionally, candidates should have retired from professional cricket at least five years ago.
While Shiv Sunder Das currently serves as the interim chief, there have been strong speculations linking former cricketer Virender Sehwag to the coveted position.
Virender Sehwag, a former Indian cricketer known for his explosive batting, has emerged as a strong contender for the chief selector position. His experience as a player, astute cricketing acumen, and outspoken nature have garnered attention and support from fans and experts alike. However, it remains to be seen if Sehwag will indeed be appointed as the chief selector or if other candidates will be considered for the crucial role.
