What does the new Reliance Jio new Rs 999 prepaid plan has to offer? Here’s all that you need to know

Reliance Jio has launched a new Rs 999 prepaid plan for its customers in India. This comes after the old Rs 999 plan’s price was increased to Rs 1199 due to tariff hikes. The new plan, now available on Jio’s website, offers more value compared to the previous Rs 999 plan.

Key Features of the New Reliance Jio Rs 999 Plan:

Validity:

  • The plan is valid for 98 days, which is a very unique duration compared to other plans.

Data and Calling:

  • Users get 2GB of data per day.
  • Unlimited 5G data.
  • Unlimited voice calls.
  • 100 SMS per day.

Cost Efficiency:

  • The daily cost of this plan is Rs 10.19, which is cheaper than the old Rs 999 plan. The previous plan had a daily cost of Rs 11.89 and offered 3GB of daily data with 84 days of validity.
  • Despite the lower daily cost, the cost per GB of data has increased to Rs 10.40, which is significantly higher than the previous rate of Rs 3.96 per GB.

Comparison with Other Providers:

  • Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and BSNL:
    • These companies have also increased their prepaid and postpaid plan costs by about 11-25%.
    • BSNL, however, has seen a growth in its customer base, with around 2.50 lakh users porting to BSNL and an additional 25 lakh new connection requests since the price hikes were announced. Although BSNL is yet to transition to 5G, it plans to do so next year.

The new Rs 999 Jio plan offers longer validity and a slightly cheaper daily cost, but the cost per GB of data has risen sharply. As other telecom companies also increase their prices, BSNL has emerged as an unlikely beneficiary, gaining a significant number of new customers despite its current lack of 5G services.
