
According to sources cited by PTI, the Telecom Department has provided a letter of intent (LoI) to Jio Infocomm, which is led by Mukesh Ambani, for satellite communication services. It was released on September 12th.
According to the report, the Department of Telecom (DoT) has awarded the business a Letter of Intent to provide Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) services.
Following the LoI, the company may establish and run the GMPCS services in the authorised service zones. Voice and data services delivered through satellite are included in the 20-year licences and GMPCS offerings.
Low-Earth Orbit (LEO), Medium Earth Orbit (MEO), and Geosynchronous (GEO) satellites can all function in these mobile satellite networks.
On February 14, 2022, Mukesh Ambani’s company announced a collaborative venture to deliver satellite-based broadband services throughout India. Mukesh Ambani’s company will now compete with billionaires Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Sunil Mittal’s OneWeb to supply dependable, fast internet worldwide.
The joint venture between Jio Platforms and the Luxembourg-based SES will deliver satellite-based internet services in India.
