Reliance’s JioMart goes live across India, offers groceries for home delivery

Indian multinational conglomerate Reliance Industries Limited’s latest venture JioMart an online groceries delivering the website is now live across 200 cities across the country including metros and non-metros. “Big town or small, JioMart delivers in over 200 towns,” tweeted Chief Executive Officer of Grocery Retail at Reliance Retail, Mr Damodar Mall.

The website offers everything from fresh fruits and vegetables to personal and baby care products. It poses competition for other grocery delivering platforms like BigBasket, Grofers, Amazon Fresh and Pantry and Flipkart’s Supermart. To check the availability of home delivery in your area, enter your Pincode while ordering. The minimum amount to avail free delivery is ₹750, otherwise, ₹25 will be charged extra as a delivery charge. As of now, the website supports net banking and credit/debit cards for online payment and cash on delivery offline.

“We offer you the convenience of shopping everything that you need for your home – be it fresh fruits & vegetables, rice, dals, oil, packaged food, dairy item, frozen, pet food, household cleaning items & personal care products from a single virtual store,” reads the ‘About Us’ section of the website. “Reliance Fresh and Smart makes your grocery shopping even simpler. No more hassles of sweating it out in crowded markets, grocery shops & supermarkets – now shop from the comfort of your home; office or on the move.”

The website offers discounts on various products. It displays a “minimum 5% below MRP” advertisement on the website. Local Kirana stores and Reliance Smart and Fresh stores are the disclosed sellers as of now. JioMart has gathered investments from Facebook, Silver Lake, Kolkata Knight Riders, Vista Equity Partners and General Atlantic of total ₹ 78,562 crores.

The website is not available as a mobile application yet but it is expected to become available via Facebook’s instant messaging app, ‘Whatsapp’.
