
Union Health Minister Manuskh Mandaviya Wednesday Chaired a high-level meeting to review the covid 19 situation in the country. The meeting comes against the backdrop of rising cases in China, South Korea, the US, Japan and Brazil.
The government of Maharashtra on Wednesday decided to formulate a task force to monitor the covid situation in the state. The Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra said that the task force would be formulated in coordination with the central government. The state lodged 20 cases in the last 24 hours, it reported no deaths during the period.
India currently ranks second after the USA, both in the total number of infections and deaths. More than 5.3 lakh people have died due to Covid 19 in India. China reported 2700 cases on Monday and five deaths. The total number of deaths in China has touched 5, 242. The rise of new variants is feared due to the strict covid restrictions.
India on Wednesday reported 131 new cases. The tally of active cases has come down to 3,408 in the country. The active cases now only constitute 0.01% of the total infections. The central government also asked the states to remain alert and increase the surveillance of covid cases, on Tuesday. Adar Poonawala also expressed his concern over rising cases in China.
220.01 crore doses of vaccines have been administered so far under the vaccination drive launched in the month of January this year. The meeting was attended by secretaries of Health and Ayush Ministry, members of NITI Aayog, and National Technical Advisory Group chairman N L Arora amongst other senior officials.
