Serum Institute releases fact sheet, prohibits people allergic to ingredients of Covishield

After a few allergic cases emerged upon vaccination of Covishield on January 19, Serum Institute of India declared, “People allergic to any of the components of the Covishield are advised not to take it. The recipient should tell the healthcare provider about all their medical conditions and problems. Also, one should not try any further attempt with the vaccine if the person had a severe reaction after the previous dose.”

The ingredients of Covishield vaccine are “L-Histidine, L-Histidine hydrochloride monohydrate, Magnesium chloride hexahydrate, Polysorbate 80, Ethanol, Sucrose, Sodium chloride, Disodium edetate dihydrate (EDTA), Water for injection,” Serum Institute of India mentioned.

The fact sheet further adds strictly that if a person is pregnant or is breastfeeding she should tell the healthcare provider before taking the dose of the vaccine, if the person has already taken a vaccination for COVID-19 before, or a person is allergic to any substance after consuming any food or drug.

A total of 3,81,305 people have received Covishield vaccine till 5 PM on Monday and 580 adverse cases were reported after immunisation of the vaccine, said the Union Health Minister.
