India records 3.32 lakh fresh COVID-19 cases, 2263 deaths in last 24 hours

The cumulative number of COVID19 vaccine doses administered in the country stands at 13,53,46,729.

On Friday, April 23, Union Health Ministry released the data of new COVID-19 cases in India, after that India saw another day with highest surge in cases.

Report released by the Union Health Ministry states that in the last 24 hours, India reported 3,32,730 new COVID-19 cases and 1,93,279 patients got discharge, while 2,263 people died of this deadly virus, and reached the milestone of highest single day deaths. Total active cases in India is now around 24.28 lakhs. The total death toll in India reached to 1,86,920.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) also released a data that shows 27,44,45,653 samples were tested up to April 22, including 17,40,550 samples tested yesterday.

The total vaccinations across the country has crossed more than 13.5 crore mark today with more than 30 lakh vaccine doses administered till 8 pm.

The cumulative number of COVID19 vaccine doses administered in the country stands at 13,53,46,729.

These include 92,41,384 Healthcare Workers (HCWs) who have taken the 1st dose and 59,03,368 HCWs who have taken the 2nd dose, 1,17,27,708 Frontline Workers (FLWs (1st dose), 60,73,622 FLWs (2nd dose), 4,55,10,426 for over 45 years old to 60 years old (1st Dose), 18,91,160 for over 45 years old to 60 years old (2nd dose), 4,85,01,906 for above 60 years (1st Dose) and 64,97,155 for above 60 years (2nd Dose).

In order to expand and liberalise the countrywide vaccination drive, the Union Government has on 19th April 2021 announced the Liberalised Pricing and Accelerated National Covid-19 Vaccination Strategy which would come into effect from 1st May 2021.

A key feature of the Liberalised Pricing and Accelerated National Covid-19 Vaccination Strategy is that  the “Vaccine manufacturers would supply 50% of their monthly Central Drugs Laboratory (CDL) released doses to Govt. of India and would be free to supply remaining 50% doses to State Governments and in the other than Govt. of India channel”. The State governments are free to purchase the vaccine doses from the vaccine manufacturers.
