
On Friday, April 9, Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Harsh Vardhan held a press conference regarding the increase of Covid-19 cases in India.
While addressing to the press conference, the Union Health Minister shared the status of Covid-19 vaccination across the country. He said, “As far as healthcare workers are concerned, over 89 Lakhs have got first dose and over 54 Lakhs have got the second dose. As far as frontline or field level workers are concerned, over 98 Lakhs have got the first dose and over 45 Lakhs have got the second dose.”
“For those between 45 – 59 yrs of age, first dose has been received by over 2.61 crore people & second dose has been received by 5,23,268 people. For those above 60 yrs of age, over 3.75 crore people have received first dose & over 13 Lakh people have received second dose,” Dr. Vardhan added, as quoted by ANI.

The Health Minister further added, “Today at 9 o’clock, the latest figures suggest that 9,43,34,262 doses have been given to people in India. In the last 24 hours, we have given 36,91,511 doses. Last week we even gave 43 Lakhs doses one day, probably the highest given anywhere in the whole world.”
Dr. Harsh Vardhan shared information about Vaccine exports and diplomacy. He said, “Till now we have exported 6.45 crore doses to 84 countries, which includes 1.05 crores to 44 countries as grants, 3.58 crores to 25 countries as commercial contracts & 1.82 crores to 39 countries through the COVAX facility of World Health Organisation.”
India recorded over 1.31 lakh Covid-19 cases on Thursday, with Maharashtra reporting 56,286 cases, Chhattisgarh 10,662 cases, Uttar Pradesh 8,490, Delhi 7,437 cases and Karnataka 6,570 cases in last 24 hours.
