In the last twenty-four hours, Delhi has recorded 606 new cases of COVID-19, 340 recoveries, and 1 death; however, the percentage of positive cases reached 15.64 percent, which is the highest it has been in over 16 months.
The increase of 606 new COVID-19 cases is the biggest that has been seen in a single day since August 27 of last year. The most recent count of cases for the city was 573 in August of the previous year when there were also 5 fatalities and a positive rate of 3.62%. The number of people who have died in the city stands at 26,533 at this time. It is possible that the high spike in the number of cases of H3N2 influenza in the nation is the cause of the increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases that have been seen over the last few days.
Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, was quoted as saying that his administration was “keeping a watch on the increase in COVID-19 cases in the national capital and is prepared to meet any scenario.” Mr. Kejriwal said to the media present in a review meeting on the issue of COVID-19 that there is no need to fear for the time being and that the city administration was taking all necessary procedures. He was speaking to the press during the meeting.
Experts in medicine believe that the newly discovered XB B.1.16 strain of the COVID-19 virus may be the cause of the recent uptick in reported instances of the disease, which has been spreading gradually but steadily.
