
India’s Coronavirus tally inches towards the 15 lakh mark as 47,704 people tested positive in the last 24 hours. The case count now stands at 14,83,157. With 654 patients succumbing to the Coronavirus infection on Monday, the death toll has increased to 33,425.
The country’s active cases are at 4,96,988 and recoveries at 9,52,744. In the last 24 hours, 33,175 patients were declared recovered or cured. Currently, the recovery rate stands at 63.92%. The gap between active patients and recovered patients has crossed 4 lakh and currently stands at 4,55,755.
According to the health ministry, India has conducted 1,73,34,803 tests to date. In the last 24 hours, 5,28,000 samples were tested for the Coronavirus infection. For two consecutive days, India has been testing over 5 lakh samples in a day.
On Monday, the human trials of India’s first indigenous vaccine candidate ‘Covaxin’ began at the Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital in Bhubaneshwar. Covaxin, developed by Bharat Biotech, has been administered to several people who volunteered to be part of the trial, said Dr E Venkat Rao, Principal Investigator of the trial process.
