COVID-19: India’s case count crosses 13-lakh mark, 757 fatalities in single day

India recorded 48,916 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, pushing the case count over the 13-lakh mark. The Coronavirus tally now stands at 13,36,861. The death toll rose to 31,358 as 757 patients succumbed to the Coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the number of recoveries has now jumped to 8,49,431 while the active cases stand at 4,56,071. In the last 24 hours, 32,223 patients recovered from the Coronavirus infection. The gap between the number of recoveries and active cases now stands at 3,93,360.

The latest report by the Public Health England (PHE) showed that if you are overweight, you could be at an increased risk for severe illness or death from the Coronavirus infection. For people with a body mass index (BMI) of 30-35, the risk from Coronavirus increases by 40%. For those with a BMI of over 40, the risk increased by 90%.

On Friday, the Chief Scientist of the World Health Organisation (WHO) Dr Soumya Swaminathan said that the concept of her immunity is still a long way off and can be sped up with the vaccine.

According to a Reuters tally, The United States recorded more than 1,000 deaths for the fourth day straight. The Trump administration stressed the need for children to go back into classrooms despite the fear of safety.
