Big blow for Congress! Two of its senior leaders tests positive for COVID-19

Shashi Tharoor and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury’s announcements come a day after former Congress president Rahul Gandhi also announced testing positive for the novel Coronavirus.

Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Wednesday declared that they have contracted the novel Coronavirus by sharing the diagnosis through their respective Twitter handles.

“After waiting two days for a test appointment, and another day and a half for the results, I finally have confirmation: I’m Covid positive. Hoping to deal with it in a ‘positive’ frame of mind, with rest, steam and plenty of fluids. My sister and 85-year-old mother are in the same boat,” Congress MP Shashi Tharoor tweeted on Wednesday evening.

Chowdhury – the president of Congress’ West Bengal unit, on the other hand, tweeted: “I have been tested Covid positive, requesting all who came in contact with me for the last seven days must comply with Covid protocols. I will be continuing my campaign (for West Bengal assembly elections) through a virtual platform. I do suggest and request all to take utmost care to keep away Covid from your lives.”

Tharoor and Chowdhury’s announcements come a day after former Congress president Rahul Gandhi also announced of testing positive for the novel Coronavirus.

As reported earlier, Gandhi announced the suspension of all his rallies in West Bengal and advised all political leaders to think deeply about the consequences of holding large public rallies under the current circumstances.

Earlier this week, former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh was also admitted to the All India Institute for Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi after testing positive for Covid-19 on Monday.

Meanwhile, India has reported 2,95,041 new coronavirus cases and 2,023 deaths in the last 24 hours, according to the data released by the Union Health Ministry.
