West Bengal, witnessing a steady rise in the COVID-19 infection, reported 21,098 new cases on Tuesday, according to the state health department.
Nineteen more people succumbed to the disease during the last 24 hours, taking the overall toll to 19,936.
Kolkata drove the spike in new cases, accounting for 6565, followed by North 24 Parganas district at 4016.
In Howrah, the number of new cases increased to 1815, followed by South 24 Parganas (1435) and Hooghly (1305), the health department bulletin said.
The state’s overall tally of infection has now shot up to 17,95,430. Total active cases on Tuesday is 1,02,236Kolkata topped the toll over the last 24 hours with 6 deaths followed by North 24 Parganas at 5.
The positivity rate is 32.35 percent, while the discharge rate stood at 93.20 percent.
Amid the rise in the Coronavirus cases, the state government has imposed lockdowns in some pockets of several districts. Such areas have been designated as micro containment zones.
