The current Covid-19 situation calls for desperate measures to curb the spread of the deadly virus and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has decided to suspend all his impending public rallies in West Bengal.
The landmark move was adopted in view of rising Covid-19 cases that have flagged concerns amongst the masses as India marks a new milestone of the highest number of cases every day. Politicians have come under scrutiny for holding rallies amid such a grave crisis.
Making his stand against the proliferating cases, Mr Gandhi has advised all political leaders to think deeply about the consequences of holding large public rallies under the current circumstances.
“In view of the Covid situation, I am suspending all my public rallies in West Bengal. I would advise all political leaders to think deeply about the consequences of holding large public rallies under the current circumstances”, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi wrote in a tweet on Sunday.

The Coivd-19 protocols are being blown into smithereens due to the rallies. These events have been held in the midst of a surging coronavirus pandemic; on Saturday, for the third successive day, India reported over two lakh new cases in 24 hours.
The pictures shared by news agency ANI illustrate people gathering in large crowds without face masks and standing shoulder-to-shoulder with absolutely no regard for social distancing.
The EC on Friday reportedly ordered curbs on campaigning for the last three phases of the eight-phase West Bengal elections, including extending the silence period before voting from 48 hours to 72 hours and barring all campaigning from 7 pm to 10 am, in view of the rising COVID-19 cases.
