The Indian Navy has inducted its eighth Missile Cum Ammunition (MCA) Barge, LSAM 11 (Yard 79), in a ceremony held at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on March 7, 2025. The event was presided over by Commodore Rajesh Bargoti, CoY, ND(Mbi).
With this induction, MSME shipyard M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd, Visakhapatnam, has successfully completed the contractual delivery of all eight MCA Barges to the Navy. The contract for their construction and delivery was signed on February 19, 2021.
Indigenously designed in collaboration with an Indian ship design firm, these barges were tested at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL) in Visakhapatnam to ensure their seaworthiness. Built in accordance with the Indian Register of Shipping’s naval regulations, the MCA Barges align with the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives.
Seven of these barges have already been deployed, significantly supporting the Navy’s operational commitments by facilitating the transport, embarkation, and disembarkation of ammunition and other supplies both at jetties and outer harbors.
