Silver prices in India continued their sharp upward momentum on Tuesday, January 13, with rates rising further across domestic markets. The price of silver stood at Rs 275 per gram, while 1 kilogram of silver was priced at Rs 2,75,000, marking an increase of Rs 5,000 per kg compared to the previous session.

The sustained rise comes after a strong rally in global precious metal markets, where silver and gold have been witnessing heavy safe-haven demand amid rising geopolitical and policy-related uncertainty.

Silver price movement over the last 10 days

Silver prices have surged significantly in recent sessions. From Rs 2,41,000 per kg on January 4, prices have climbed steadily to Rs 2,75,000 per kg on January 13, translating into a gain of nearly 14% in just over a week. The sharpest single-day move was recorded on January 12, when silver jumped Rs 10,000 per kg.

Silver rates in major Indian cities today

Silver prices were largely uniform across major cities. In Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Pune, Vadodara and Ahmedabad, silver was quoted at Rs 2,75,000 per kg. Meanwhile, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala reported slightly higher rates at Rs 2,92,000 per kg, reflecting local taxes and logistics premiums.

What’s driving the rally in silver prices

The ongoing surge in silver prices is closely linked to global factors. Internationally, silver prices have remained elevated after touching fresh record highs, supported by strong safe-haven buying. Investors have moved towards precious metals amid heightened uncertainty surrounding US monetary policy, geopolitical tensions, and concerns over institutional stability.

Gold prices crossing above $4,600 per ounce earlier this week also boosted sentiment for silver, which tends to follow gold during periods of heightened risk aversion. Additionally, thin liquidity and short-covering in futures markets have further amplified price movements.

With global cues remaining supportive, silver prices in India continue to stay firm, extending the strong rally seen so far in January.
