The Ministry of Coal reported a 5.33% year-on-year (YoY) growth in coal production for December 2024, reaching 97.94 million tonnes (MT), compared to 92.98 MT in December 2023. Dispatches also rose by 6.36% YoY to 92.59 MT from 87.06 MT in the same period last year.

Key Highlights:

  1. Coal Production:
    • December 2024: 97.94 MT (up 5.33% YoY).
    • Captive and Other Mines: 18.95 MT, marking a significant 29.61% growth from 14.62 MT in December 2023.
    • Cumulative FY25 Production (April-December): 726.29 MT (up 6.11% from 684.45 MT in FY24).
  2. Coal Dispatches:
    • December 2024: 92.59 MT (up 6.36% YoY).
    • Captive and Other Mines Dispatches: 18.13 MT (up 31.83% YoY).
    • Cumulative FY25 Dispatches (April-December): 750.75 MT (up 5.58% from 711.07 MT in FY24).

Ministry’s Statement:

The Ministry emphasized its efforts to boost production and streamline dispatch processes to meet India’s rising energy demands. It reaffirmed its commitment to achieving self-reliance in coal under the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

The consistent growth in production and dispatch reflects ongoing initiatives aimed at strengthening domestic coal supply and reducing dependence on imports.
