CNG prices across major Indian cities remained largely unchanged on Tuesday, May 27, following the latest round of hikes implemented earlier this week. The recent increase marked the fourth CNG price hike in less than two weeks, with prices rising by up to Rs 2 per kg in several cities.
The revisions come amid higher global natural gas prices, volatility in LNG markets and a weaker Indian rupee, all of which have increased input costs for city gas distributors.

Why CNG prices have increased recently
The latest hikes come amid rising global natural gas prices and continued uncertainty surrounding LNG supply routes due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
Earlier this week, the US and Iran exchanged strikes near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical LNG shipping routes. The disruption has tightened global gas supply expectations and increased volatility in international gas prices.
A weaker rupee has also added pressure on imported gas costs for Indian distributors.
Higher CNG prices are expected to impact household transportation budgets, commercial vehicle operators, cab aggregators and logistics companies that depend heavily on gas-based mobility solutions.
