Air India partners with Thales for next-generation in-flight entertainment system upgrade

The IFE system boasts Optiq, featuring 4K QLED HDR displays tailored to deliver unparalleled viewing experiences in-flight, characterized by exceptional picture quality.

Air India has announced plans to enhance and modernize its existing fleet of 40 Boeing 777s and 787s by implementing Thales’ Avant Up system. The upgrade is scheduled to begin in 2024 and extend into 2025. Furthermore, Thales will be responsible for installing this in-flight entertainment (IFE) system on Air India’s 11 new Airbus and Boeing aircraft, with deliveries set to commence in 2025.

The IFE system boasts Optiq, featuring 4K QLED HDR displays tailored to deliver unparalleled viewing experiences in-flight, characterized by exceptional picture quality. Equipped with in-screen USB-A and USB-C high-speed charging ports, Optiq stands out as the sole display offering dual Bluetooth connections and built-in Wi-Fi capability. With Optiq, passengers can seamlessly pair their wireless headphones or other devices with the display while simultaneously charging their smartphones and laptops. This ensures travellers arrive at their destinations feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, as highlighted by the airline in a recent statement.

Yannick Assouad, Thales’ Executive Vice-President of Avionics, expressed pride in strengthening the enduring partnership with Air India. Assouad emphasized Thales’ dedication to aiding the airline’s evolution through the delivery of cutting-edge AVANT Up technologies.
