Ola’s Gig and S1 Z scooters to feature revolutionary ‘Bharat Cell’; Check details

Ola Electric’s CEO and founder, Bhavish Aggarwal, recently revealed that the newly launched Ola Gig and S1 Z scooters will feature the company’s in-house developed Bharat 4680 lithium-ion cells. These will be the first products to use cutting-edge batteries, which boast five times the energy density (275 Wh/kg) compared to conventional 2170 cells. The batteries also offer an extended lifespan, supporting over 1,000 charge cycles and fast-charging capabilities, reaching 50% charge in just 13 minutes.

The Ola S1 Z, targeted at urban commuters, and the Ola Gig, aimed at gig workers, are set to debut in April 2025. Both scooters will also feature removable battery packs, marking a first for Ola Electric. The Gig, priced at ₹39,999 (base variant), offers an IDC-certified range of 112 km and a top speed of 25 km/h, powered by a 250 W motor and a 1.5 kWh removable battery. The Gig+ variant, priced at ₹49,999, caters to gig workers traveling longer distances.

The Ola S1 Z starts at ₹59,999 and offers either a 1.5 kWh or dual 1.5 kWh battery configuration, with a range of up to 146 km. With a top speed of 70 km/h, it accelerates from 0 to 20 km/h in 1.8 seconds. The S1 Z+ variant, priced at ₹64,999, is designed for both personal and commercial use, offering enhanced durability and ruggedness.
