Maruti Suzuki is set to unveil its first mass-production electric vehicle (EV), the e Vitara, at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Expo. Built on the EV-specific Heartect-e platform, the e Vitara is the production-ready version of the EVX concept shown at the 2023 Auto Expo. Production is set to begin in Spring 2025 at the Suzuki Motor Gujarat plant.
Design & Features
The e Vitara retains key styling cues from the EVX concept, including squared wheel arches, prominent haunches, short overhangs, and a receding roofline. The SUV features angular headlamps with Y-shaped DRLs and a black sash element. Extensive cladding adorns the wheel arches, bumpers, and lower door sides, while the rear gets a connected tail lamp setup.
Inside, the e Vitara features a modern design with two freestanding displays, a soft-touch dashboard, rectangular air vents, and a glossy black centre console with physical buttons. The floating upper console provides extra storage space.
Powertrain Options & Performance
The e Vitara offers two battery options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh, with the latter providing an optional four-wheel drive (4WD) powertrain. Lower variants feature a 142 bhp, 189 Nm motor for front-wheel drive (FWD), while higher variants boost output to 172 bhp. The 4WD version includes an additional 64 bhp motor for the rear axle, delivering a combined 181 bhp and 300 Nm.
The electric 4WD system, ALLGRIP-e, balances performance and control, featuring a unique Trail mode for off-road terrain. Disc brakes are standard at all corners.
