Hyundai commences production of new Exter SUV in India

Hyundai has initiated production of its new Exter SUV at its manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, in preparation for its upcoming launch in India.

Set to be the company’s smallest SUV, the Exter will be introduced on July 10 and will offer a petrol engine and a CNG option. The Sriperumbudur plant, known for assembling popular models like the Venue and Creta, rolled out the first Exter unit in Ranger Khaki color, with additional color choices available.

The SUV will feature a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.2-liter Bi-Fuel Kappa petrol engine with CNG capability. Transmission options include a manual gearbox for the CNG variant and a choice between a manual and an AMT automatic transmission for the petrol version.

With the Exter, Hyundai aims to strengthen its position as a comprehensive SUV manufacturer. The SUV will be available in seven variants and is expected to compete with models such as the Tata Punch, Citroen C3, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and Maruti Suzuki Fronx in terms of pricing, which is estimated to range between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
