Leaders of various political parties in the opposition have condemned the Center’s and the Delhi Police’s action after 21-year old Climate Activist Disha Ravi was arrested by the Delhi Police yesterday.
The Delhi Police has accused Ravi of having contributed to designing the written material of a ‘toolkit’ that was shared by Great Thunberg which provided details about the ongoing farmers’ protest and have said that she will be kept in police custody for 5 days.
Several leaders of various political parties including the Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, CPI(M), and others tweeted in response to her arrest.
Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “Arrest of 21 yr old Disha Ravi is an unprecedented attack on Democracy. Supporting our farmers is not a crime.”

In a statement, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) said, “a rattled government is going after anyone reporting on, showing solidarity with the farmers’ protest or amplifying their message. Shameful that they won’t even spare a 21-year-old environmental activist. But they will not succeed. We will resist.”
While sharing screenshots of various news articles condemning Disha Ravi’s arrest, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi tweeted a poem – “बोल कि लब आज़ाद हैं तेरे बोल कि सच ज़िंदा है अब तक! वो डरे हैं, देश नहीं! India won’t be silenced.”
