
The former US Defence Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld, and one of the architects of the US invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq in 2003 died at the age if 88 in Taos, New Mexico. He was the Defence Secretary during the Gerald Ford administration, 1975-1977, and then during the George W Bush administration, during 2001-2006.
The cause of the death of Mr Donald Rumsfeld was multiple myeloma, said a family spokesperson. A notice from the Rumsfeld family posted on Twitter said that they share the news of passing if Donald Rumsfeld who was an American Statesman and devoted husband, grandfather and great grandfather.

Rumsfeld, in 2001, oversaw the US strikes in Afghanistan following thr September 11 terror attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York City. His politics eventually fell from favour as the politicians of both sides turned on the forever wars and the troops which had been sent after the September 11, 2001 attacks would complete the final withdrawal weeks after his death.
His family mentioned that he didn’t only spend his years defending his legacy but also dabbled into software and released a solitaire app.
Rumsfeld served as President Richard Nixon’s ambassador to NATO, and served first as the White House Chief of Staff under Ford and then as the you gest person to ever lead the nations largest federal agency, as the Secretary of Defence.
Rumsfeld also ran for the Republican US presidential nomination in 1988. He served as a chief executive of two fortune 500 companies.
