Today on March 2, 2021, the Bombay High Court granted bail to Partho Dasgupta, a major accused in the Television Rating Points Scam (TRP Scam). Dasgupta was formerly the Chief Executive Officer of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC).
Dasgupta was arrested on December 24 on charges of criminal breach of trust and cheating. The legal defence of Dasgupta had told the High Court that he was unfairly being kept in jail when all the other personalities accused in the said case were out on bail or pre-bail, TheIndianEXPRESS reported.
To back this statement, Dasgupta’s counsel Abad Ponda and advocate Arjun Singh Thakur presented a charge sheet against Romil Ramgarhia, former Chief Operating Officer (COO) of BARC, who the charge sheet admits had a bigger role in the case, and yet had been granted bail within a week of his arrest.
Justice Prakash D Naik, while granting bail to Partho Dasgupta, set the bail at a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh and solvent sureties. The cash amount was available for a deposit immediately and the solvent surety certificates will be required to be submitted within 6 weeks.
Dasgupta will also be required to submit his passport to the Mumbai Police and have to report to its crime branch on the first Saturday of every month for six months and once in three months after that.
