This day is also auspicious as it marks the liberation of East Pakistan and creation of a new country- Bangladesh, one of the fastest growing economies in the world over the past decade. On this is day, Pakistani forces in east, agreed to a complete and unconditional surrender.
Today Bangladesh is also celebrating its the 50th Independence Day which is marks the history of the sacrifice of our martyrs.
Pm Narendra Modi paid tribute to the martyrs of the war today.
This Vijay Diwas we bring to you the stories that have been submerged in the pages of history, forgotten in the mists of time. Many soldiers who were held captive during the war still has not returned to their land.
A picture was published in Time magazine dated, 27 December, 1971 which was recognized as Major AK Ghosh. The photograph was a proof that Major Ghosh was in Pakistani custody when the war ended on December 17, 1971. He did not return with the other prisoners of war in 1972, at the time of the Shimla agreement. The Indian government should have called a spade a spade on this. The list does not end on one. There were around 54 soldiers who fought for the country ,who were assumed to be Killed-in-action (K.I.A). Later on there were evidences that revealed them to be alive in Pakistani jails and where changed to K.I.A to M.I.A (missing in action).
