Samajwadi Party veteran leader and three-time MLC Mulayam Singh Yadav has passed away on Saturday night, after a prolonged illness.
He was 92 years old and breathed his last at his native village in Auraiya district of Uttar Pradesh. The last rites were performed on Sunday and a huge crowd gathered to catch a last glimpse of the leader.
“He had recently returned home from a Kanpur hospital but was not keeping well and his health deteriorated again,” his grandson Gaurav Yadav said.
Over his demise, SP president Akhilesh Yadav while expressing grief said that he worked for the farmers, poor, and people from underprivileged backgrounds his entire life. He was a very close aid to the former SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Mulayam, who was elected as sarpanch of his village at the age of 21 in the year 1949, was the block chief for 15 years and a member of the Legislative Council for 20 consecutive years. He was a three-time member of the Legislative Council, was elected to the sarpanch post five times in a row and to the Legislative Council for the first time in 1990.
SP district president Rajveer Singh Yadav, former MLA Pradeep Yadav, Indrapal Singh Pal, former principal Dr. Ajab Singh Yadav, former district president Ashok Yadav, former Block Chief Vinay Yadav, Vaikunth Yadav and other leaders reached the village and paid tribute to the late leader.
