Two blasts at Jammu airport in first drone strike at an Indian military base

Jammu Airport Explosions: Experts from the National Bomb Data Centre, forensic teams, and the Jammu and Kashmir police raced to the high-security airport just before 2 a.m. following the bombings.

After two explosions at the Jammu Air Force station in the early hours of Sunday, the Indian Air Force (IAF) is probing what might be the first ever drone strike on any Indian military site.

Two IAF soldiers were injured in the bombings, which occurred just before 2 a.m. and within five minutes of each other.

Following the explosions, specialists from the National Bomb Data Centre, forensic teams, and the Jammu and Kashmir police raced to the high-security airport. One of the explosions damaged the top of a building in the technical sector, while another burst in the open.

According to reports, the first explosion occurred around 1.37 a.m., followed by the second at 1.43 a.m.

According to top military sources, this is frequently considered as a major incident. A team from the National Investigation Agency is also stationed at the airport, which is around 16 kilometres from Pakistan’s border.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Air Force Vice Chief sky marshal HS Arora and sky marshal Vikram Singh are going to be at Jammu for investigations, said ministry officials.

News agency ANI quoted sources as saying that the possible target of the drones was an aircraft parked within the dispersal area.

The incident happened hours before the Defence Minister and military Chief General MM Naravane began a three-day visit to Ladakh to review India’s operational readiness and to interact with the troops within the backdrop of a drawn-out standoff with China.

There are reports over the past two years of Pakistan using drones to drop weapons across the border.

In June 20 last year, the Border private security force (BSF) shot down a suspected spy drone within the Kathua district of Jammu.
