Chennai, May 17 : Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin today directed government officials to ensure continuous and stringent action against illicit liquor and submit a weekly report in this regard.
Mr Stalin, who chaired a high level review meeting in the wake of twin liquor tragedies in Villuppuram and Chengalpattu districts that has claimed 22 lives, said the report should be submitted to him every Monday, through the Principal Secretary of the Home, Prohibition and Excise Department.
He also said the toll-free prohibition helpline, ‘10581’, available for the public to report on the sale of illicit liquor, should be popularised. Stating that the WhatsApp numbers of Assistant Superintendents of Police and Deputy Superintendents of Police of the Prohibition Enforcement Wings (PEW) of every district must be publicised to receive complaints, Mr Stalin also directed the Additional Director General of Police to monitor and ensure that such complaints are acted upon.
He also said a report on this should be sent to his office every Monday. He also told all the District Collectors to organise weekly coordination meetings on eradication of illicit liquor every Monday, with the participation of the police, revenue officials, and the district managers of TASMAC, besides holding monthly meetings headed by the Home Secretary and the DGP.
