Indian Foreign Secretary Vardhana Shringla had a discussion on a range of issues between India and Myanmar at India-Myanmar Foreign Office Consultations today. The official spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Mr. Anurag Shrivastava, said that Myanmar is an Integral element of India’s Neighbourhood First & Act East Policies.
Indian Government is trying to maintain its good relations with neighboring countries as Myanmar has good relations with India, but there are some critical issues such as Rohingya Muslims.
Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, has said that India will work on Neighborhood First Policy. This policy favors good and healthy relations with India’s neighborhood countries such as Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and other South-Asian countries.
PM Modi thinks that neighbors are not only those with whom we share geographical boundaries but also those with whom our hearts meet.
“India is constantly trying to deepen its age-old cultural, social, and economic ties with its neighboring countries. South Asia is home to one-fourth of the world population, and we can create infinite possibilities of development and prosperity of such a large number of people through cooperation,” PM Modi said in his address to the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on India’s 74th Independence Day.
