Union Home Minister Amit Shah discussed three new criminal law bills in the Lok Sabha. During this, he said that according to the proposed laws, there will be a provision of death penalty for the crime of mob lynching. According to the Centre, the new bills aim to revamp the criminal justice system in the country, with a focus on “justice” rather than “punishment”. Let us tell you that all three criminal law amendment bills have been passed in the Lok Sabha.
First time introduced in monsoon session
The Indian Judicial Code Bill 2023, the Indian Civil Defence Code Bill 2023 and the Indian Evidence Bill 2023 were introduced in Parliament for the first time during the monsoon session. Amit Shah introduced amended versions of the bills during the winter session. Amit Shah also said that the proposed laws will bring a system to strengthen the accountability of the police.
Instead of treason, they brought treason
Amit Shah said that details about the arrested persons will now be recorded in every police station and a designated police officer will be responsible for maintaining these records. He said that the government has made trafficking laws gender-neutral.The Home Minister said that instead of treason, we have brought treason. The IPC defined treason as “act against the Government”. But BNS provision is for those who affect the sovereignty and security of the country. He said that anyone can criticise the government. No one will go to jail for criticising the government. But no one can speak against the country.

Proud to change these three laws after 150 years
The Union Home Minister said that now it is not the rule of the British, it is not the rule of Congress, it is the rule of BJP and Narendra Modi… No argument of saving terrorism will work here. The treason law made by the British, under which Tilak Maharaj, Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel. Many of our freedom fighters remained in jail for years, and that law continues till today. For the first time, the Modi government completely abolished the sedition law. For the first time, laws are going to be made under the leadership of PM Modi as per the spirit of our Constitution. Also said that I am proud to have changed these three laws after 150 years.
We do what we say – Amit Sha
Taking aim at Congress, Amit Shah said that some people used to say that we do not understand these bills, I tell them that if you keep your mind as an Indian then you will understand. But if your mind is of Italy, you will never understand. He said that we had said that we will remove Article 370 and 35-A, we removed it. We had promised that we would end terrorism, make a policy of zero tolerance and give a free hand to the security personnel, we did. We had said that Ram temple will be built in Ayodhya and now Ram Lalla will be consecrated on 22 January 2024. This is Narendra Modi’s government, which does what it says.

Definition of terrorism in any law for first time
The Home Minister said in the Lok Sabha that with the use of technology, the law and order system of the new India will be state-of-the-art. Also said that mob lynching is a disgusting crime and in the new law we are making a provision for death penalty for the crime of mob lynching. But I want to ask the Congress that you have also ruled the country for years, why did you not make a law against mob lynching? You used the word mob lynching just to abuse us, but forgot to make laws when you were in power. Terrorism was not explained in any law till now
