In order to address the recent economic challenges that have been confronted by the country and to put it on the path to high growth, the President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe, has requested assistance from India in the areas of policy reforms, the utilization of digital technology, capacity building, good governance, and the building of institutions.
This was brought up during a conversation with a delegation from India that was headed by Bharat Lal, the Director General of the National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG), who mentioned a statement from the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions.
On April 1, 2023, an Indian delegation paid the neighboring nation a visit for two days at the request of the government of Sri Lanka. During their stay, the team made contact with the country’s president, Ranil Wickremesinghe. The High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Gopal Bagley, the Associate Professor of NCGG, Dr. AP Singh, and other senior diplomats of the Mission accompanied the Director General of NCGG during his visit to Sri Lanka.
Throughout the course of the discussion, President Ranil Wickremesinghe shed light on his vision for Sri Lanka, which included a plan to solve the current economic issues facing the nation and put it on the road toward high economic development.
During the meeting, Mr. Lal emphasized how Prime Minister Modi, while serving as Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001, put the state on the path to high economic growth and sustained prosperity through his vision, strategy, and progressive policies. This accomplishment occurred in the midst of a number of crises and negative economic growth.
As a result, Gujarat has enjoyed an annualized rate of economic expansion of more than ten percent during the previous two decades. Since 2014, he has served as India’s Prime Minister, during which time he has ushered in a new culture of citizen-centric policies and excellent administration. As a direct consequence of his efforts, India is seeing significant economic development despite the fact that these are historically unprecedented times.
Bharat Lal also discussed the Prime Minister’s motto of putting the neighborhood first and brought attention to the unique connection that India and Sri Lanka have. He also emphasized the important role that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and vision play, as well as the Prime Minister’s focus on good governance, in assuring the delivery of public services that are efficient, effective, and driven by technology.
The Indian delegation placed a strong emphasis on the role that the beneficial effects of digital technology can play in fostering transparency, equality, inclusion, and accountability.
On the dashboard, the Director General also provided some insight into the advanced electronic monitoring system that the Jal Jeevan Mission employs, which is based on sensor-based loT devices.
