Kolhapur/Satara, May 11: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan on Thursday demanded the immediate resignation of the Shinde-Phadnvis government on moral grounds following the Supreme Court judgement on the Shiv Sena case.
In a press release, Chavan said the Supreme Court has said the Shinde group could not lay its claim on the Shiv Sena and the appointment of Bharat Gogavle as party chief was illegal. He said the court has also passed comments on the role of the then state governor.
In such a situation, the present dispensation should immediately quit on moral grounds.
The apex court has ruled that it cannot restore the Uddhav Thackeray government as he stepped down before the floor test.
Chavan said that even if Thackeray was wrong in tendering his resignation, he had done it on moral grounds.
