In a major security lapse, an intruder entered the Parliament House premises on Friday morning by climbing a tree and scaling the boundary wall. The incident occurred around 6:30 am and raised immediate concerns over safety at one of the country’s most sensitive locations.
Officials said the intruder managed to reach the Garuda gate of the new Parliament building after jumping over the wall from the Rail Bhavan side. He was quickly apprehended by security personnel and is currently being interrogated.
The breach comes just a day after the conclusion of the monsoon session of Parliament, which was marked by frequent disruptions and limited legislative business. According to the Lok Sabha secretariat, the session that began on July 21 had 21 sittings, accounting for 37 hours and 7 minutes of effective business.
This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. Last year, a man in his early twenties scaled the wall of the Parliament Annexe building and entered the premises. A video of the episode had surfaced, showing the suspect being detained by armed CISF personnel. No incriminating material was found on him at the time.
The latest incident has once again highlighted vulnerabilities in security arrangements at Parliament and is likely to spark discussions over strengthening safety measures around the complex.
