Today, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh has broken his one-day fast, he expressed anguish over the humiliating conduct, he was subjected to in the Upper House. In a letter to Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu, he wrote that he has not been able to sleep as he is troubled over the ‘unruly’ proceedings of the House.

On Sunday, opposition members objected to the manner in which the two farm bills were being passed. They wanted a right to vote and when their demands were not heard, they attempted to tear the Rule Book, climbed on the tables, shouted slogans and allegedly then threw the rule book at Harivansh. Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu condemned the opposition’s behaviour and said Harivansh had informed him that he was “abused with objectionable words” and “would have been harmed also”.
