A transformer fire at the Prasar Bharati Secretariat building on Copernicus Marg in New Delhi was brought under control on Friday afternoon, with no casualties reported. The blaze broke out in a 33‑kilogram transformer inside the complex around 2.05 pm, triggering an immediate emergency response from the Delhi Fire Services. Fire officials said eight to ten fire tenders were dispatched to the spot soon after the alert was received.

According to Assistant Divisional Officer Bhupendra Prakash, the fire first took hold in the transformer and then spread to nearby bushes within the premises. Firefighters managed to contain the flames and fully extinguish the blaze by around 2.50 pm. The incident caused a brief disruption at the high‑security Copernicus Marg complex, which houses the headquarters of Doordarshan and other units of Prasar Bharati.

Authorities confirmed that the fire remained confined to the transformer and surrounding vegetation and did not spread into the main building structure. There have been no reports of injuries or damage to critical broadcasting equipment so far. The exact cause of the transformer fire is yet to be ascertained and is expected to be determined after a detailed technical inspection of the site. Officials have said they will review safety protocols at the Secretariat building to prevent similar incidents in the future.
