Rahul Gandhi is reluctant but continues to look for a non-Gandhi Congress leader

It is expected that Ashok Gehlot will be on the top of the list if the Gandhis refuse to run for the post. He will be followed by Mukul Wasnik, Venugopal, Kumari Selja, Malikarjun Kharge, Bhupesh Baghel, and several other names that are in talks for the position.

During the next few days, it is expected that Congress will announce the date at which the next presidential election will take place. However, no candidates are announced yet.

The party completed the internal election process on 20th August and announced the dates of the election between 21st August and 20th September.

According to sources that spoke to ANI, senior party leaders have urged Sonia Gandhi to remain party president until 2024. This is if her son Rahul Gandhi declines to run for the presidency.

It has been stated by a number of senior party leaders that the party cannot be held together by anyone other than the Gandhi family. They also mentioned that the party will dismember and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra should be handed over the party’s command.

“Sonia Gandhi hinted at the name of Ashok Gehlot, saying that if no one from the Gandhi family is made then Gehlot should be made the president, She also said this to Gehlot in the meeting between the two leaders on Tuesday,” said sources. (ANI)

In the meantime, the process has been put on hold since Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi are going to fly abroad to receive treatment and checkups for Sonia Gandhi.
