
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has passed over the majority number of 59 in Punjab, presently leading on 76 seats, as counting for Punjab Election proceeds on Thursday.
AAP candidate Jeevan Jot is topping after the initial round of counting in Amritsar East.

However, current CM Charanjit Singh Channi is trailing behind Aam Aadmi Party candidates in his ancestral seat, Chamkaur Sahib, as well as in Bhadaur. Punjab Lok Congress head and former CM Captain Amarinder Singh is also getting on the second spot behind AAP candidate in Patiala Assembly constituency.
Counting for the votes for 117 assembly seats in Punjab started on Thursday amid packed security arrangements. Ferozepur Rural, Kharar, Lehra, Dharamkot and Attari were among the seats where the AAP was leading.
Meanwhile, SAD is also leading in Bholath and Tarn Taran, among others. In a fierce multi-cornered battle, Congress has been left behind at second place and Akalis are battling to retain their seats. As of 9:55 am, trends have AAP at 76 and Congress at 15 out of total of 117 seats. Akalis are at 8 and BJP and allies at 5.
