An Indian student was killed on Tuesday in shelling in Ukraine. The 21-year-old Naveen Shekharappa, a final year medical student from Karnataka’s Haveri, died when Russian soldiers flared a government building in Kharkiv.

However, soon after the incident come to light European Council President expressed grief over the death.

Charles Michel, the President of the European Council spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and conveyed grief over the loss of life. He also took to Twitter to inform about the same. “Expressed my condolences on the death of an Indian student in Kharkiv today due to indiscriminate Russian attacks against innocent civilians,” tweeted Charles Michel.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked to the student’s father and called his fourth meeting in three days on the Ukraine problem. He had also despatched four ministers to Ukraine’s border nations to organize evacuations. The foreign ministry in a statement persuaded Russia and Ukraine to ensure safe passage for thousands of citizens left in the middle of the war.
