The Madras HC passed the order on the appeal of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) and convicted the minister and his wife.

Tamil Nadu Minister K Ponmudy has received a big blow from the Madras High Court. The court has convicted him in the disproportionate assets case. With this, the Sessions Court’s decision to acquit the minister has been overturned.

The Madras HC passed the order on the appeal of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) and convicted the minister and his wife. The judge, after hearing them, directed them to be present in the court on December 21 for the sentencing.

The prosecution said that the DMK minister Ponmudy had acquired assets worth Rs 1.75 crore in his and his wife’s name while he was a minister in the DMK regime between 2006 and 2011. Which was more than the known sources of income. The minister might be disqualified now after the sentence.

After this decision by the court, the Tamil Nadu Governor has approved the recommendation of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and handed over the Higher Education portfolio to Backward Classes Welfare Minister R.S. Rajakannappan.
