‘I feel special pride…’: PM Modi shares glimpses of Bharat Milap, Akhilesh Yadav reminds ‘Kyoto’

Bharat Milap is an important part of Ramlila which commemorates the welcoming of Lord Ram back to Ayodhya after 14 years of vanvas.

The occasion of Vijaya Dashmi which is followed by Bharat Milap, held the next day, leaves netizens of Varanasi spellbound. The enchanting beauty and significance of the historic occasion left a deep impact on PM Modi, who took to the microblogging app X to describe his feelings by sharing glimpses of the Bharat Milap celebration held on October 25.

“Bharat Milap held under Lakkha Mela in Kashi has been an integral part of India’s Sanatan culture. This presentation, which has been going on for the last five centuries, once again left the devotees of Lord Shri Ram emotional. Being the MP of Kashi, I feel special pride in this tradition. Some pictures of today’s program,” said PM Modi.

The Samajwadi Party leader and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav gracing the occasion, wrote on X: “The age-old tradition of ‘Bharat Milap’ continues even today in Varanasi.”

Further, the Samajwadi Party leader took a dig over PM Modi’s promise made before elections of converting Varanasi into Kyoto: “Hopefully, this will continue whenever Kyoto is built.” he added to his statement.

 

Significance of Bharat Milap:

Bharat Milap is an important part of Ramlila which commemorates the welcoming of Lord Ram back to Ayodhya after 14 years of vanvas and his embrace to younger brother Bharat who had been waiting for him since then. This festival is celebrated every year at the Nati Imli ground in Varanasi and Ramnagar Fort in the essence of victory of righteousness over evil power. The annual Dussehra festival and the Bharat Milap festival are one of the greatest attractions of Varanasi city.

The celebration reflects spirituality, antiquity and tradition together, and also carries forward the traditional legacy of the city.
