On May 2, 2021, the West Bengal assembly poll results were declared and the Mamata’s TMC made it to the chair for a third consecutive time. All India Trinamool Congress won over 200 seats while BJP struggled to even touch a three-digit mark. On the other side, the Congress-Left alliance vanished off from Bengal.
In a series of exciting things that happened on the result day, Bengal’s sitting CM Mamata Banerjee lost the Nandigram seat to her early aid Suvendu Adhikari who joined his hands with BJP, just before the polls.
It was surprising as earlier, some media reports claimed Mamata’s victory but later on, Election Commission made it clear that Suvendu has made it to Nandigram with 1,956 votes.
Now, Mamata Banerjee has reacted to this and she has claimed that even the Governor of West Bengal congratulated her for winning but later on, the actual result was totally different. Mamata said, “I received an SMS from someone wherein Returning Officer of Nandigram has written to someone if he allows recounting then his life would be under threat. For four hours server was down, Governor also congratulated me. Suddenly everything changed,” quotes ANI.
Mamata has also appealed to her party workers to maintain peace and not indulge in any violence– “I appeal to everyone to maintain peace and not indulge in any violence. We know BJP and Central Forces have tortured us a lot but we have to maintain peace. At present, we have fight COVID19,” quotes ANI.
Further, TMC supremo blamed the Centre for sending maximum vaccines and oxygen to only 2-3 states and she has also requested the central government to sanction Rs 30,000 crore for a universal vaccination to all throughout the country.
Moreover, Mamata Banerjee has declared all state journalists as the COVID warriors. Earlier, Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik also declared the same for his state. Many state CMs including Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has demanded to declare journalists as the frontline COVID warriors for their selfless efforts during the pandemic.
