Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde has announced that the decision regarding Maharashtra’s next chief minister will be finalized during a scheduled meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This follows the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) decisive victory in the recently concluded Maharashtra Assembly elections.
Shinde, speaking to reporters, emphasized the importance of unity within the alliance, stating, “We have a meeting scheduled with Amit Shah, and decisions will be made in that meeting. Our focus remains on serving the people of Maharashtra through the Mahayuti alliance.”
The Shiv Sena, BJP, and Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) collectively secured 235 out of 288 seats in the elections, with the BJP winning 131 seats, the Shiv Sena 57, and the NCP 41. The landslide victory has paved the way for deliberations on leadership roles within the alliance.
Shinde expressed satisfaction with the development initiatives completed during his tenure as chief minister. “The works halted by the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government were finished by the Mahayuti. I am content with what we achieved in 2.5 years,” he remarked.
Shinde also highlighted his commitment to the alliance and the people of Maharashtra, mentioning that he had already conveyed his willingness to accept any decision made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.
The upcoming meeting is expected to bring clarity on the leadership structure, with speculation continuing over whether Shinde will retain his position or if BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis will take charge as the chief minister.
