‘BJP harassed a woman MP’: CM Mamata Banerjee on Mahua Moitra’s expulsion from Lok Sabha

“They (BJP) ditched the people, they ditched the Parliament, they ditched the Constitution,” said Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee.

TMC MP Mahua Moitra has lost her Parliament membership in the Cash for Query case. After this, her first reaction came. She said, “There is no evidence against me. I have raised the issue of Adani and will continue to raise it in future too. There is no evidence of any cash gift.”

Mahua Moitra further said: “The recommendation for removal is solely on the basis that I have shared my portal login. There are no rules to control this. The Ethics Committee has no power to expel. This is the beginning of the end for you (BJP).”

BJP harassed a woman MP: Mamta Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that she is sad to see the attitude of BJP today. “The way BJP harassed a woman MP is shameful and is a classic example of BJP’s vendetta politics and democracy being murdered in broad daylight today,” said Bengal CM.

Should have got more time: Congress MP

Congress MP Manish Tewari said: “Today for the first time I am debating without taking any paper into cognizance. It is an irony that the report is tabled at 12 o’clock and debate takes place on it at 2 o’clock. If we were given 3-4 days, we could have read this report thoroughly and presented our views before the House.”

“Those who have been accused should get a chance to present their views and the person who has made the allegations should also be cross-examined,” said Tewari.

Opposition MPs walked out of the Parliament complex after the proposal to remove Mahua Moitra from Parliament membership was passed. As soon as the Ethics Committee report was discussed in the Lok Sabha, TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay requested that Mahua Moitra be allowed to present her side in the House.

Amid strong reaction from opposition parties, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla defended the decision, saying, “This House accepts the conclusion of the committee that the conduct of MP Mahua Moitra was unethical and unbecoming of an MP. Therefore, it is not appropriate for him to continue as MP.
