Bihar Election Result 2020: NDA registers massive victory by winning 122 seats against Mahagatbandhan

The counting of Bihar elections has finally concluded with NDA emerging as the winner in the 243-member Bihar assembly despite the rival Mahagatbandhan. The Bihar elections witnessed a face-off between Nitish Kumar led NDA( BJP and JD(U) alliance) and Tejashwi Yadav upholding the reins of Mahagatbandhan, the grand alliance between RJD, Congress and other left parties.

NDA managed to hold 122 seats required to form the government with BJP winning 74 seats and JD(U) holding 43 seats, 4 for VIP and HAM each. The Prime Minister declared the victory an hour ago, stating that the people have voted for development.

On the other end, Mahagatbandhan stood at 112 constituencies, RJD with 75 seats, Congress with 19 seats and Left with 16. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and also their CM candidate, won his Raghopur seat by a margin of over 38,000 votes in the result declared on Tuesday night. According to the EC, Tejashwi defeated Bharatiya Janata Party’s Satish Kumar by a margin of 38,174 votes.

AIMIM wins 5, BSP wins 1, LJP wins 1 & Independent wins 1 in the entire race.

The counting day was quite tumultuous, exciting and full of unexpected twists. The three phases were marked by slow transitions as BJP paced towards the potential victory. Mahagatbandhan was leading in the first while BJP recovered and gained the lost distance and sufficient seats to overtake by the grand alliance third phase. BJP heaved JD(U) up throughout as BJP was leading on 73 seats and JD(U) in 40. The RJD was leading in 69 seats. RJD quickly recovered by 7 pm and as of 9 pm was leading with 24 victorious seats while leading in 51.

The Bihar elections were conducted in the backdrop of the COVID-19 scare, the following economic crisis and exodus of mass migrants- all the unprecedented conditions cumulatively creating the urgency of job-creation and financial assistance. These elections were primarily canvassed thus on the major factors of employment opportunities and development. Now time shall bear witness to the reign of elected party and their decisions, as the voters hold their faith high and await positive changes in the state.
