Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, along with several MPs from the INDIA bloc, was detained on Monday during a protest march to the Election Commission of India (ECI) office.

The march, which began from Parliament around 11:30 am, was organised to protest what the opposition calls “vote chori” (vote theft) through the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. According to reports, floor leaders of the alliance were also expected to meet the Election Commissioners to register their objections formally.

The protest follows Rahul Gandhi’s recent allegations that the ECI is working in collusion with the BJP. He cited a Congress analysis of the Mahadevapura assembly constituency in Karnataka, claiming nearly one lakh votes were “stolen.”

Legislative business in Parliament continues

Even as the protest unfolded, the Lok Sabha continued with its scheduled business. The House is set to consider and pass three key bills today – the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025, the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Indian Ports Bill, 2025 – alongside multiple committee reports and ministerial statements.

The detentions mark another flashpoint between the opposition and the ruling party as tensions over electoral roll revisions continue to escalate.
