Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Doda in Jammu and Kashmir on September 14, marking the first time a Prime Minister has visited the district in 42 years. The visit is part of his campaign to support Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates in the region ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
The Prime Minister’s visit is highly anticipated, as the last time a Prime Minister visited Doda was in 1982. With a large rally planned in the town, tight security arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth event. Multi-tier security measures have been deployed in Doda and Kishtwar districts, particularly around the venue of the rally.
PM Modi’s visit comes just days before voting begins on September 18 for the Assembly elections in Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban. His presence is expected to provide significant support to the BJP candidates in the area. The BJP has fielded candidates for all 43 Assembly seats in Jammu division and is aiming to strengthen its presence in the Union Territory.
This election marks the first since the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A, and the first Assembly elections in the region in a decade. Voting will take place in three phases—on September 18, September 25, and October 1, with the results to be declared on October 8.
After his visit to Jammu and Kashmir, PM Modi is scheduled to address another rally in Kurukshetra, Haryana, later the same day as part of his campaign in the state.
